Fab Five ~ Movie/TV Heroines

And I'm back!  Let's see which heroines made it onto today's list.

General Leia Organa ~ Star Wars

Okay, who doesn't love this woman!  I mean, wow, she's a total badass and I love every single thing about her.  And it breaks my heart that she is gone now, not just the character, but the actress as well.

But how fitting was it that Luke's last words to her onscreen were:

"No one's ever really gone."

Rose Tyler ~ Doctor Who

Now so far, Rose is the only companion I really know, but I just love her!  She's smart, spunky, sassy and sweet as can be.  And that little thing she does with her tongue is totally adorable!!

Katie Meaghaid ~ The Decoy Bride

Katie lives on a little Scottish island taking care of her terminally ill mum and writing travel guides for the island.  Then this fancy celebrity couple (played by David Tennant and Alice Eve) come to the island to be married, and when the paparazzi catches on, Katie is hired to act as a decoy.  Of course, things don't go right ans shenanigans and high-jinks ensue.  It's one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen and I love it!!  Kelly MacDonald is a very good actress and I love this role of hers!

Chae Young Shin ~ Healer (Korean Drama)

Now, I originally told myself that I wasn't going to do any heroines from the the same movies/shows I did heroes from, but I just had to put Young Shin on here.

Like Healer, this girl has been through a lot of rough stuff, but it only shaped and hardened the diamond she is.  A reporter for an online gossip magazine, she's the funniest, bubbliest little thing and runs smack dab into trouble without looking either way.  Her father is a lawyer who takes cases for those with little funds, and he often defended criminals.  When they were released from jail, he would find them jobs and help them start down a new road.  Therefore, they often hung out at his coffee shop a lot, and taught Young Shin their various skills at a young age.  She can pick locks and pockets like the veriest street rat and her skills cause a rather funny scene once.

Jung Soo takes her to a private place of his and he always gets there by picking a lock.  He starts to pick it, but then remembers she is with him (she doesn't know who he really is at this point, she thinks he just the new intern at the office) and says that he forgot the key.  She waves him aside and nonchalantly picks the lock with a hairpin...and then realizes what she just did.  It's absolutely hilarious. 

Cinderella ~ Disney's Cinderella (2015)

 Cinderella was never my favorite fairytale, and I found the animated Disney movie to be completely boring, but the live-action, was fantastic!

Cinderella has actual character and emotions and Lily James was absolutely the perfect person to play her!  So yes, this is a version of Cinderella that I love.

Fab Five ~ Movie/TV Heroes

The lovely Rebekah and I have begun a new blog series, that - as you can see above - is called Fab Five.  On Tuesdays and Fridays we will be talking about five characters, scenes, settings, etc. that we enjoy from different books, movies and TV shows.  Movies/TV will be Tuesday and Books will be Friday.

Soo Jung Hoo - Healer (South Korean TV drama)

Jung Hoo/Healer, is my favorite kdrama hero.  He is smart, funny, incredibly good looking, but also has this depth that is just amazing.  He's been through a lot of hard times, but it has turned him into an amazing young man.

Zorro/Don Diego de la Vega - Zorro (1957/59 TV Show)

  

Now I don't watch a whole lot of old TV shows, nor many old westerns, but who doesn't love Zorro?  It is possible that I might have just the teeniest bit of a thing for masked heroes.  Just a smidge of a thing! ;)  But seriously, he's just the coolest ever and I adore watching this show.  But I must confess, I like the men's costumes more that the ladies in this show.  Those old Spanish style suits are just so gorgeous!!

Porthos, Athos, D'Artangan and Aramis - The Three Musketeers (2011 film)

Okay, okay, okay, I know this is four guys rolled into one, but they are just so cool!!  I mean, really, just look at them!!  Now I've never read TTM book, and this is actually the only screen version I've seen, but it's a total hoot!  And the snark and sass these four men manage to just pour out of themselves without being dumb is totally the best!

Jim Craig - The Man From Snowy River (1982 film)

*sighs* 

Jim Craig is just totally and absolutely amazingly awesome!!  And look at that grin!!

Merlin - Merlin (British TV Show 2008/12)

So first of all, I think I've mentioned before that I am extremely partial to Irish actors?  Well I am, but that is only a small part of why I like this Merlin. ;)  There is something very compelling about the tale of this young man full of magic who comes to a place where it is absolutely forbidden and watching him struggle to not only survive there, but to save those around him from the darkness.  And Colin Morgan is just plain awesome!  I just wish they had ended the show differently.

** White Christmas ~ 1954

 Christmas Classic!  I told Mel (she doesn't usually watch this kind of movie) that she had to sit down and watch this with me the Saturday after our first big snow.

Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker

I've never seen this done live, I found this performance on YouTube.  It is amazing!

 Full House Take 2 ~ 2012 ~ 1 ep

Finally finished this drama!!  Oh it was wonderful, the ending!

Seven First Kisses ~ 2016 ~ 3 eps

Over in Korea (more countries than Korea might do it, but Korea is the only one I know about) big name brands will make web dramas with popular actors to advertise their brand.  This one is done by big department store, and the premise is that the heroine works at the department store, does something kind to a customer who is (unbeknownst to her) a fairy and the fairy gives her a gift of, well practically reliving her first kiss seven times.  They got the biggest, most popular, hottest Korean actors.  Like this drama is every fan girl's dream!!  We are talking boys like Lee Min HO, Ji Chang Wook, Lee Joon-gi, Lee Joong Suk, like SERIOUSLY!!  It is cheesy and crazy, but hilarious!

 

Christmas In the Smokies ~ 2015

Okay, this was your typical Hallmark-ish Christmas movie, cheesy, corny and full of clichés, but it was amusing.  Mason's dancing?  It was AWFUL!!  He really did dance like a chicken, or a one legged goat!  It was amusing.  Oh, oh!!  Her dad?  He was Sheriff Walter Moncrief from Crossfire Trail!!  That might not mean anything to a lot of you, but it is something special to me.

DA DA DA DUM!!!

 

Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope ~ 1977

Yes, yes, I finally watched it!  Both of the parents and Melody had seen and loved the movies ages ago, but I had never seen them.  That was another reason I didn't try to find a way to see The Force Awakens and Rogue One in theatre (Mum and Mel went to see both, I stayed home with the kids).  See I wanted to see the movies in release order.  But we borrowed it from a friend, and watched it as the family Christmas Eve movie.  Everyone loved it!  It was so much fun!  Han was (as I knew he would be) my favorite, C3P0 was a nut! and Obi Won was the best!!  The saddest part, was Carrie Fisher's death 3 days later.

Penelope ~ 2006

I had heard about this movie, and was looking forward to watching it, so when I saw it on Netflix I was like, "Whooo!"  It was very inspiring.  Especially the quote at the end.

That made me think.  "It's not the power of the curse, it's the power you give the curse."

Angels in the Snow

The family New Year's Eve movie.  It was...well...interesting.

Well folks, that's what I watched last month.  this year I will still be keeping a list of what I read and watch, but I don't know if I will post a monthly list.

 

A Wrinkle In Time

  I first read Madeleine L'Engle's novel, A Wrinkle In Time back in August.  I really, really enjoyed it.  In fact, I loved it.  Blatantly 'Christian' fantasy annoys me sometimes, but this book didn't.  A few weeks ago when looking something up, no, I don't remember what it was, I discovered that a film version is in progress to be released in 2018.  I immediately looked it up feeling a bit suspicious and defensive because, "Really?  Who are they going to have?  Are they going to mess it up?"  Well I was agreeably surprised!

  So like I said, I was agreeably surprised!  I really, really like Chris Pine, I've seen him in Princess Diaries 2 and in clips from the new Star Trek movies.  By the way, he makes a smashing Captain Kirk.  And though I haven't seen Gugu Mbatha-Raw in anything yet, I hear she is an amazing actress.  And Reese is pretty good too.  So I am looking forward to it!  

  Oh! and one of the 'Three Wombats' from Ant-man is going to be in it too.  Which speaking of Marvel, Mum, Melody and I are planning to watch the New Year in with Captain America: The Civil War!!  Netflix now has it and it will be my first Marvel MCU film.  Well, I've seen clips from some of the other films, but this will be the first one I have seen all the way through!  I'm really looking forward to it!!

WOWO!!  They are FINALLY talking to each other!  And Go Dong!  Love that boy!  And oh my goodness, there is heartache ahead for our boys!

Oh this is a good show!  Hardison and Parker are still my favorites, but the others three are magnificent too!

The K2 ~ 2016 ~ 4 eps

Well, so far it's a good drama.  Well for one thing it's Ji Chang Wook.

** Star Trek~ The Original Series

Galileo Seven & The Trouble With Tribbles 

 Oh how I love this crew!  We watched The Trouble with Tribbles as a family for Thanksgiving Day movie night.  It was the first time the little kids had seen any ST and they absolutely adored it.  I think it was my 3rd time watching this ep.  I love it!  And Galileo Seven and "You are a very stubborn man Mr. Spock!"  "Yes, Captain."

** The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe ~ 2006

Netflix got this movie, so I sat down and re-watched it one Friday night.  James McAvoy is great!  HE makes the perfect Mr. Tumnus and I love the way he (James) interacts with Georgie.  Melody and I think that, had they included Fattly Bolger in the movies, James McAvoy should have played him.  He would have made a perfect Hobbit.

I love old movies!!!  Even when they are a bit corny!  Mum and Mel didn't enjoy it very much.

The K2 ~ 2016 ~ 2 eps

 And the drama that we were waiting for!!  It is Ji Chang Wook's newest and we are watching it as it airs.  It started out a bit more thriller-y than I expected, so I didn't know if I would be able to watch it, but it leveled out and I'm loving it!

Voyage of the Dawn Treader ~ 2010

I had high hopes for this movie.  VotDT is my favorite Narnia book, and I was hoping the movie would live up to the book.....it didn't.  It was the worst of the three.  I would watch it again because there were a couple really cool parts, but I didn't really like it.

This drama is hilarious!!

Descendants of the Sun ~ 2016 ~ 4 eps

Ah!!  We finally finished DotS.  It was an amazing drama!!  I loved it!

Cantabile Tomorrow ~ 2014 ~ 16 6ps

I needed a drama to watch, so watched this.  It was amusing and I binged it in one week.  (I could have done it faster, but I made it last longer.)

Bridge on the River Kwai ~ 1957

This was the most boring movie ever!  It was full of egotistical, arrogant dingbats.  The Army doctor was the best person.
