Thank you, Mr. Tolkien!

I decided to join Hamlette's annual 'A Tolkien Blog Party of Special Magnificence' (I found out about it through Olivia).  So here are my answers to the questions.

1.  What draws you to Tolkien's stories?  (The characters, the quests, the themes, the worlds, etc.)
I don't really know.  There is something that really draws me to them, but it is one of those things that I can't really put into words.  I have a hard time putting my thoughts and feelings into words sometimes.  Maybe it's the beauty.  Or the Hope.

2.  What was the first Middle Earth book you read and/or movie you saw?  What did you think of it?
Movie?  Fellowship of the Ring (theatrical).  I saw the movies before I read the books.  Book? Fellowship of the Ring!  I was enthralled from the first moment!!  It was really hard for me to put the book down!

3.  Name three of your favorite characters and tell us why you like them.
Faramir.  The Nobility and Honour of him.  The fact that he...ugh.  I just can't think of the right words!!!!

Faramir~ Faramir!! Captain of Gondor!:

Sam!!  Even  when others give up, Sam never does!!!  Sam is the true meaning of a best friend.

Samwise~ My Favorite Hobbit. Nobody can beat Sam.:

Kili.  He is just awesome!!  You don't get much of Kili in the books, well at least not as much as in the movies.  So I think that most of my love for Kili comes from Aiden Turner's portrayal of him.  Some of my favorite things about him: He is an Archer, He is 'tall', dark and handsome, and I think that a lot of it might be that Aiden is Irish.  There is a song that says, "When Irish eyes are smiling, sure they steal your heart away."  I have found that to be only too true.  *smiles guiltily*

4.  Are there any secondary characters you think deserve more attention?
I would have liked to see more of Haldir, and NOT the way that PJ brought in more of him!!!!

Lord of the Rings~ This hurts, but is also amazing.:

5.  What Middle Earth character do you relate to the most?
Well I have come out in tests as, Frodo, Galadriel, Legolas, Gimil and a mixture of the Witch-king and Frodo(I was NOT flattered by that result!).  But I think that I most relate to Sam or Gimli.

6.  If you could ask Professor Tolkien one Middle Earth-related question, what would you like to ask him?
Well off the top of my head, 'How many children exactly did Aragorn and Arwen have?'

7.  Are there any pieces of Middle Earth merchandise you would particularly like to own, but don't?
Arwen's necklace, Taruiel's necklace and Kili's rune stone.

8.  What battle would you absolutely not want to be part of?
When the Morgul forces take Osgiliath.

9.  Would you rather eat a meal at the Rivendell or Bag End?
   Rivendell.

10.  List up to ten of your favorite lines/quotes from the books or movies.

“Aragorn threw back his cloak. The elven-sheath glittered as he grasped it, and the bright blade of Anduril shone like a sudden flame as he swept it out. 'Elendil!' he cried. 'I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dunadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil's son of Gondor. Here is the Sword that was Broken and is reforged again! Will you aid me or thwart me? Choose swiftly!”:

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." ~Lord Of The Rings #quotes http://www.mindmovies.com/?16059:

Farewell, Master Burglar :'(:

The Fellowship Of The Ring. #CueTears:

Faramir:

Lord of the Rings // Hardir - "An alliance once existed between Elves and Men. We come to honour that allegiance.":

Battle of the Five Armies:

Hobbits~ This is one of the best scenes with the Hobbits!!:

This is my all time favorite quote of Pippin's.

Pippin~ This is my favorite Pippin quote.:

  3. I saw the LOTR movies before I read the books too :-) I love how they brought so many of us into the fandom!

I'm curious -- how would you change how Haldir is involved in the movies?

Sam's response when Frodo tells him he's going on alone always makes me choke up. Dear, wonderful Sam.

Thanks for joining the party! Merry Tolkien Week :-)

    1. Yes!! I am doing an 'About Me' page right now and on it I will be telling the story of when I saw the first movie. It is a rather funny story.

I'm not quite sure. Most of all I wouldn't have him die!!!!!! That scene just KILLS me EVERY TIME!!!!!

I know!! I usually have tears running down my face by the time we come to that part!! And lets not even TALK about Boromir's death!!!

Thanks for having it!! I am having a lot of fun!!

    2. Ah yes, I really hate that Haldir dies too. Works so beautifully as far as the storytelling goes, but still... right in the feels.

Boromir is my favorite LOTR character, and I cry over his death every time.

I'm glad you're enjoying the party! I just posted today's game, which is absurdly easy compared to yesterday's.

:) I never noticed that quote of Pippin's either until I saw the edit. Then I re-read the books and noticed it. Now I ADORE that quote!!! It is something that he says to Beregond one time when they are eating on the walls together.
